Twinjabi – Meet The World’s Best Twin Singers

Words by Tanisha Saxena
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes,” says the French author Marcel Proust. Well, that’s exactly the thought behind enveloping the duo – Twinjabi.

The Indian American music duo – Kush and Neil firmly believe in multidimensionality. One should try everything possible. The 26-year-old twins aim for the stars & started pushing boundaries through their music right from their debut song.

Viral hits like Bombay and Brown Magic exemplify the raw energy of the duo. The ease with which they cross between genres is what makes them unique and incomparable to their contemporaries. Their debut song – Bombay crossed 1.5 M + views on YouTube and 400k + streams on Spotify. Their music video ‘Bombay’ and ‘Mere Pass’ have been placed by television stations like – MTV India, Zee 5, 9XO, and B4U.

1) CANdYMAG – How did the engineers meet music?

The Twinjabi’s never wanted to go on a linear horizon. Looking back at their kickstart fondly one can say that they always wanted to do something out of the box. “We started making music because we felt Desi music was all starting to sound the same. Artists weren’t taking enough creative risks. We created Twinjabi for those craving something different, something new. We’re two brown boys from Louisville, Kentucky, and we feel our story needs to be told”.

2) CANdYMAG – what is a quintessential Twinjabi composition?

Something that hits the soul, makes you want to dance, and has substance. That’s the perfect trifecta right there.

3) CANdYMAG – How did things change after the success of ‘Bombay’? What were your expectations?

It gave us a sense that there is a craving for the Twinjabi sound. It’s gratifying but we feel this is just the beginning for us. We want to bring Desi music to the global masses, and we won’t stop till that happens. We’re loving the journey and all the people we’ve been able to connect, through our art.

4) CANdYMAG – As a pop group, you represent diversity. What role do the diasporic roots play in reaching out to the masses?

We pull from personal experiences that anyone around the world can connect to. Our Indian roots and American upbringing give us a unique outlook, but our music isn’t limited to people that look just like us. All of our music is meant to have a universal appeal and relatability. At the end of the day, all human beings are connected.

5) CANdYMAG – As a duo, are there moments when there’s a sense of disagreement between each other?

Ha-ha, of course, we’re twins that grew up together since birth. That’s just part of being brothers. The most important thing is that we move as one for the same vision and goals.

6) CANdYMAG – How do you see Indian American music as a genre? Also, how it is different from the conventional one?

Twinjabi doesn’t fit into a genre.  It’s all about the vibe we’re trying to express. That could turn into an R&B, Hip Hop, Pop, or even Reggaeton song. Twinjabi is for those craving something new, something unexpected. The common thread is that we’re telling authentic stories with real emotions.

7) CANdYMAG – How inspiring is Michel Jackson’s life for you?

Michael Jackson was fearless with his craft, and never made music or performed live conventionally. We try to approach our art in the same way. We put our soul and creativity into everything we do.

8) CANdYMAG – Your American Dream?

At a certain point, you got to stop dreaming and go get it. We believe in hard work, and if you work hard enough, you will get your shot. That’s how it works, and we’re living proof of that.

9) CANdYMAG – How crucial is social media reach in today’s scenario?

Social media is very important. It’s how we stay connected with our fans and show the Twinjabi gang our appreciation for them. Instagram, YouTube, and Tik Tok are very crucial tools for us to show our fans the different sides of Twinjabi.

10) CANdYMAG – what are your thoughts about Indian music?

We love a lot of it, and we are definitely influenced by it. Indian music touches your soul, and that is something very unique & special.

11) CANdYMAG – Who’s your favorite Bollywood composer/singer?

Arijit Singh, his singing always hits the soul.

12) Attempting to achieve stardom is a daunting task, especially going for it all alone. Lucky are those who get a similar zeal! You are the most famous identical best twins in the world. How’s it coming together as two of you are changing the scenario? Does it help in improving the odds?

We don’t think of it that way. We are artists and we want to make great art for the world, that’s it. We like to keep things simple. As our hero, Kobe Bryant said, “it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey.” The ups and downs of the journey are dreams. Waking up at 5 am to train is the dream. Staying up until 4 am in the studio to perfect a song is the dream. Rigorous vocal & dance training is the dream. It’s about the journey, not the destination. As long as you remember that, you will be great.
